Sanderson Roofing takes pride in celebrating its 125th anniversary in 2020. Established in 1895, our company is committed to providing high-quality roofs and exceptional customer service to our client in Ottawa and surrounding areas.
During our 125-year history, we have been the founding member of various well-known associations, including Better Business Bureau of Ottawa, the Ontario Industrial Roofing Contractors Association, the Canadian Roofing Contractors Association, and more. We are also proud to be the only roofing company in Ottawa to hold the prestigious Better Business Bureau Torch Award multiple times. Along with these, we've also received several safety awards from The Construction Safety Association of Ontario. A few years ago, our employees presented us with an award for being an "Excellent Employer". Our close attention to detail, dedication to customer satisfaction, and quality workmanship are the reasons we are the first choice for roofing contractors in Ottawa. Our experienced estimators carefully evaluate your needs to determine the most cost-effective and technically suitable solutions for your roofing requirements. They are paid by salary not commission, so there is no pressure to “upsell” customers beyond their needs.
We carefully select our manufacturers and suppliers to obtain the most durable, cost-effective and attractive materials. Then, our knowledgeable and experienced installers build the roof to the highest standards in the industry.
Getting It Done Right for You
Dedication to Quality
We are one of the roofing companies who believe it is important for every business to give back to the community in which it operates. As a result we have supported, through money or services, the following charities or non-profits:
In 1895 John D. Sanderson was working as a shingler and lather for another roofing company when he decided to strike out on his own and form his own firm. At first it was small – just himself and another man. Gradually he expanded his services and staff to include flat roofing and sheet metal work. Unfortunately in 1908, while still in his thirties, he became seriously ill and died.
His son Herbert, still a teenager at the time, took over the running of the business and managed it through the great Depression and the turmoil caused by two World Wars. Prior to 1920 he took in his brother Arthur as a partner. Herbert was our longest-serving president and he put his mark on the firm more than anyone else.
In the late 1940’s Arthur became seriously ill, and Herbert hired Lloyd Mann (who was married to Herbert’s daughter Roslyn). Lloyd had just returned from serving overseas as a decorated RCAF bomber pilot during the Second World War. Herbert loved the business and kept working well into his 80’s, gradually turning over the management to Lloyd. Herbert died in 1978 and Lloyd Mann became president although he had been managing the business prior to that time due to Herbert’s advancing age. Lloyd modernized the firm considerably during this time.
In 1966 Lloyd & Roslyn’s son Donald began working part-time for the firm while still in high school. He continued working there through university and later joined the firm on a full-time basis and has been running the business for the last few years. The firm is currently owned by Donald Mann who is the great-grandson of the founder.
