Our History
 |
|
In 1895 John D Sanderson was working as a shingler and lather for a another roofing company when he decided to strike out on his own and formed his own firm. At first it was small - just himself and another man. Gradually he expanded his services and staff to include flat roofing and sheet metal work. Unfortunately in 1908, while still in his thirties, he became seriously ill and died. |

His son Herbert, still a teenager at the time, took over the running of the business and managed it through the great Depression and the turmoil caused by two World Wars. Prior to 1920 he took in his brother Arthur as a partner. Herbert was our longest-serving president and he put his mark on the firm more than anyone else. |

In the late 1940's Arthur became seriously ill, and Herbert hired Lloyd Mann (who was married to Herbert's daughter Roslyn). Lloyd had just returned from serving overseas as a decorated RCAF bomber pilot during the Second World War. Herbert loved the business and kept working well into his 80's, gradually turning over the management to Lloyd. Herbert died in 1978 and Lloyd Mann became president although he had been managing the business prior to that time due to Herbert's advancing age. Lloyd modernized the firm considerably during this time. |

In 1966 Lloyd & Roslyn's son Donald began working part-time for the firm while still in high school. He continued working there through university and later joined the firm on a full time basis and has been running the business for the last few years. The firm is currently owned by Donald Mann who is the great-grandson of the founder. |
